Hi, I’m Sophia!
I grew up in California attending both public and private schools. I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2013 with a dual bachelor of arts in English and Spanish Language & Literature, and went back to school in 2014 for my teaching credential at Mills College.
After earning my credential, I started as an English Language Development teacher to newcomer immigrant youth at a public high school in Oakland, CA, working full time during the school day and pursuing a master's degree at night. I did this for two years until finally graduating in 2017 with my Master in Education, also from Mills.
From there I dedicated myself to developing into the best educator possible, becoming director of my school’s newcomer program for the start of the 2019-20 school year. After two years as both director and full-time ELD teacher (during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic), I made the difficult but necessary decision to step away from the school environment to focus on my health and set new intentions for a sustainable work-life ratio.
I didn’t stop teaching, though. During this time, I took on a few students who sought help with their college admissions essays — ranging from a Latin American transplant with their eyes set on the Bay Area’s finest undergraduate universities, to an already college-educated European student hoping to apply to grad school in Scandinavia. And through this work, I found my new niche.
Allow me to guide your student from uninspired essays to ones written with honesty and personality. Together, we can increase their pool of acceptance letters so they have greater choice in the next chapter of their education.
